So I'm greatly concerned now as a cardiologist that those cases that we see have sudden unexplained cardiac arrest, that in fact, the COVID vaccine may be a cause or a partial cause of what we're seeing.

[0:20](https://www.translate.mom/transcript/8iNMgmLuZmDc/en/cardiologist-discusses-covid-19-vaccine-concerns-and-heart-muscle-cells?t=20) And could you explain to our listeners what this term troponin leaks actually means? And even myself, I mean, I've studied biology, but certainly I'm quite ignorant as to how the heart develops as a muscle in terms of coding damage or recovering from that.

[0:38](https://www.translate.mom/transcript/8iNMgmLuZmDc/en/cardiologist-discusses-covid-19-vaccine-concerns-and-heart-muscle-cells?t=38) Well, the heart, let's just say broadly, the heart is constructed of a fiber skeleton and then contractile long muscle fibers called cardiomyocytes.

[0:49](https://www.translate.mom/transcript/8iNMgmLuZmDc/en/cardiologist-discusses-covid-19-vaccine-concerns-and-heart-muscle-cells?t=49) And there, there's a constitution of cells.

[0:52](https://www.translate.mom/transcript/8iNMgmLuZmDc/en/cardiologist-discusses-covid-19-vaccine-concerns-and-heart-muscle-cells?t=52) Now, a lot of people don't know this, but the largest population of cells in the heart are not the contractile muscle cells, but they're various support cells, what's called satellite cells.

[1:02](https://www.translate.mom/transcript/8iNMgmLuZmDc/en/cardiologist-discusses-covid-19-vaccine-concerns-and-heart-muscle-cells?t=62) But of the contractile apparatus of the heart, the cardiomyocytes, those muscle cells are loaded with proteins that actually allow the contraction to occur.

[1:14](https://www.translate.mom/transcript/8iNMgmLuZmDc/en/cardiologist-discusses-covid-19-vaccine-concerns-and-heart-muscle-cells?t=74) The big ones are myosin and actin.
