Choosing Meaningful Names in Islam

His question is, “Peace be upon you, Mufti Sahib.

How is the name Hizen, and can we use it?”

And peace be upon you, along with Allah’s mercy and blessings.

Look, the name you asked about, Hizen or Hizen,

when we searched for this name, we looked at it on Google, and

on Google, many people on some

website have given Hizen the meaning

“a gift from God.”

When we searched for this name,

in the Urdu, Arabic, and Persian dictionaries that are

commonly used here, the dictionaries we know,

we searched extensively. Despite extensive searching, Hizen

and what is stated on Google’s website

is that it is a word of the Urdu language.

Whereas, nowhere in Urdu, even in the major dictionaries, did we

find the name Hizen anywhere, not even remotely.

So this name is nonsensical, a meaningless name.

It does not appear anywhere in books.

It is a fabricated name.

Generally, you will see that names whose meanings are given as

God's gift, Allah's gift, or similarly,

a flower of Paradise, many names are given such meanings. All these

names are fabricated, and their meanings are made up by people themselves. Such

names generally do not exist with such meanings, so we make up such

names and directly take them from Google or from a website.

We directly choose such names. This is not appropriate at all. The name you

asked about, Hizan, despite extensive searching,

could not be found anywhere in books.

we may be called by a good name.

choose incorrect names,

but only name their children after consulting scholars.

It is better that when we name our children, we name them after

the noble prophets, peace and blessings be upon them,

the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them,

and the righteous people who came before them,

name your children after them.
