Shock in Tel Aviv, and the reason is Trump.

So what is going on behind the scenes between Israel and America?

A state of astonishment settled over Israeli political circles,

with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the forefront,

as a result of a sudden and firm post by the American president,

in which he warned Tel Aviv against continuing its attacks on Lebanon. This warning

seemed like a binding order for the Israeli leadership, something Tel Aviv did not

appreciate. Netanyahu and his advisers only learned of it through the media,

which left the Israeli prime minister, according to reports,

in a state of deep personal shock and anxiety. The matter does not stop

at embarrassment and surprise, but goes beyond that

to reveal a state of contradiction between Trump’s warning and the text of the

cease- fire agreement that the State Department published on Thursday.

The text explicitly granted Israel the right to self- defense

and to take preemptive measures without being subject to the truce’s restrictions

against planned attacks existing, imminent, or ongoing,

which is basically what Tel Aviv relied on as a

pretext to move militarily in Lebanon freely, even after the

start of negotiations between Tehran and Washington and the cease- fire.

Thus, Netanyahu today

finds himself stuck in a situation that is extremely sensitive politically,

torn between the official text of the agreement and Washington’s sudden orders.
