Japan Bangladesh Joint Press Conference
We will now hold the Japan-Bangladesh joint press conference.
First, Prime Minister Takaichi will speak, followed by Prime Minister Rahman
who will make remarks. Prime Minister Takaichi, please begin.
Today, we welcomed Bangladesh's Prime Minister Tarique Rahman
and held a summit meeting.
As the international situation grows increasingly unstable, Japan and
Bangladesh will jointly strengthen their autonomy and resilience.
By doing so, they will contribute to regional peace and stability
and share prosperity. Japan
will strongly support the nation-building of the Rahman
administration, inaugurated through democratic general elections.
Today, from this perspective, democracy and the rule
of law, values shared by Bangladesh
and Japan, were discussed with Prime Minister Rahman.
Bangladesh and Japan are
important partners in realizing a more advanced FOIP.
Prime Minister Rahman is leading the
development of the Bay of Bengal region.
Japan and the Bay of Bengal
Strengthening supply chain connectivity in the Bay
region and promoting trade and investment
are being pursued. This time, the cornerstone of bilateral cooperation,
the Bay of Bengal Industrial Growth
Belt Initiative, known as BIG-B, will be advanced, and with Prime Minister Ra
hman, a new strategic cooperation ini
initiative, as a Big B that shares prosperity
confirmed we would promote it. Four new
pillars:
strengthening connectivity, preparing for
disasters and geopolitical risks,
growth opportunities through public- private collaboration,
economic growth opportunities
the creation of and development of rules, and
based on cooperation for peace and stability, both countries
aim to cooperate and prosper together. In addition, in the coming
five years, approximately one trillion yen in private-sector
investment by Japanese companies is expected.
Bangladesh’s great potential to connect Southeast Asia
and South Asia is also extremely important
to Japan’s economy. The two countries will work together
to improve the investment environment, including the early entry into force of the EPA,
and dispatch a business mission in the near future
to further promote economic relations.
We will also strengthen maritime security capabilities
To strengthen capabilities, we have newly decided
to provide patrol vessels under ODA. We will continue OSA and defense
cooperation and work for regional peace and stability
as well.
Under the future-oriented strategic
partnership between Japan and Bangladesh,
we will grow stronger and more prosperous together.
A new era in Japan-Bangladesh relations
for a future in which we prosper together, with Prime Minister Rahman,
we will lead the way. That is all from me. Thank you very much.
Thank you very much. Next, Prime Minister Rahman, please.
Distinguished members of the press and media.
Ladies and gentlemen. Good afternoon.
Good
afternoon.
At the invitation of Her Excellency
Sanai Takachi, Prime Minister of Japan.
I am leading a delegation from Bangladesh on an official visit to
Japan.
On behalf of the people of Bangladesh, I extend my heartfelt
gratitude to Prime Minister Takachi and the people of Japan
for their warm welcome and gracious hospitality.
Japan holds a special place in the hearts of the people of
Bangladesh. Our friendship is
rooted in mutual respect,
trust, and a shared vision of peace, prosperity
and stability.
Japan,
a peace-loving nation, is one of the earliest countries to
recognize Bangladesh following our independence in
1971.
For more than five decades, Japan has been one of our most valued
development partners,
making significant contributions to Bangladesh's socioeconomic
progress and infrastructure development.
We deeply appreciate this enduring friendship.
During today's meeting, Prime Minister Takachi and I held fruitful
discussions
on a broad range of bilateral, regional and
international issues,
reaffirming our long-standing friendship.
We expressed our shared commitment to further strengthening our
partnership through enhanced cooperation in energy,
ICT, rail and infrastructure, deep sea ports, and
foreign direct investment.
During this visit, we have taken
concrete steps to deepen our bilateral relationship and exchange
several MOUs
across key areas. A joint statement will set out
our outcomes and shared priorities from our discussions.
The partnership between Bangladesh and Japan has been built on
decades of friendship,
trust, and mutual respect. Today, we have an opportunity
to take this relationship to new heights.
I warmly invite Japanese investors,
businesses, and financial institutions to explore the
opportunities Bangladesh has to offer and be part of
our next phase of growth.
We are committed to working
with our Japanese partners to unlock the potential through
productive investment, technology transfer, skilled
employment, and mutually beneficial business ventures.
Together, we can build a more resilient
and prosperous future
for both our great nations.

nations into a powerful engine of economic
opportunity and shared prosperity.
