This might surprise you. One of the oldest Jewish communities in the world is Iran. It's over 2,500 years old. It began during the Babylonian exile in 597 BCE, when Jews were taken into the Persian Empire. But then a king named Cyrus the Great rose to power and allowed the Jews to return to Jerusalem and rebuild their temple. Many went back, but many stayed, and over time built thriving communities across Persia. In cities like Shiraz, Isfahan, and Tehran, they became merchants, doctors, poets, part of the fabric of Persian life.

One of the most famous Jewish stories, the story of Queen Eve, takes place right here in ancient Persia. For centuries, Jewish life continued, sometimes peaceful, sometimes difficult. Then came 1979. The Iranian Revolution changed everything. A community of around 80,000 Jews became just a fraction of that. Most left to Israel, to the United States, to start over.

Today, a small Jewish community still remains in Iran. A story that began over 2,500 years ago, and hasn't ended yet.
