Finally tonight here, abandoned by his mom, shunned by the others, a remarkable turn.

Tonight, the baby monkey who has captured the attention and the hearts of the world.

The viral star, Punch the monkey.

We reported on him last night here,

the seven-month-old monkey abandoned by his mother

and then shunned by other monkeys at the zoo outside Tokyo.

Zookeepers giving the lonely monkey a stuffed orangutan from IKEA

in hopes of comforting him and helping him to build his confidence.

Images of Punch cuddling and dragging that stuffed animal around with him going viral.

The zoo reporting the idea appeared to be working.

Punch going from clinging onto his care team during mealtime

to this.

Punch now bonding with and grooming his fellow primates, appearing to make friends.

Some early bonding.

Sitting closely right there with the adult monkeys.

And tonight here, the new images of Punch.

Taking a cue from the older monkeys, sheltering from the rain,

side by side on the rocks.

And look at this, not surprising,

the long lines of families tonight all waiting to see Punch.

Tonight here, the zoo saying Punch, quote, "shows resilience and strength,"

adding they would like everyone to keep cheering him on and to support Punch's effort.

Oh, we will.

Punch the monkey, making friends tonight. Good night.
