11 DIY Hacks for Clamps, Door Hinges, Drilling and More
Most people have no
idea about these tricks.
When removing a spring clamp,
place a fork over its two tabs.
This makes the whole task much easier.
Two, if this two-tab locking
washer refuses to
come off, remove the
metal handle from a binder
clip and snip off its curved end.
Push it through the holes in the washer.
Squeeze it together using a pair of pliers. The washer will pop straight off.
Three, fasten a zip tie
tightly around the nut.
Insert the opposite end into your
drill. Press the trigger.
You can spin the nut
all the way down in seconds.
It's much quicker and simpler.
Four, lubricating a hinge this way
won't allow the oil to reach the inside.
Position a soccer ball
underneath the metal door.
Pump air into it to raise the door.
Now the lubricant can properly reach the
hinge. Five, fold a
piece of cardboard back
and forth like an
accordion. Push it into the space above the
doorframe.
Next, spray some
expanding foam into the
opening.
The foam will fill the empty space.
This will make applying
spackle afterward much easier.
Six, if a wall anchor is stuck and won't pull out, twist a
corkscrew into it and remove it
just like you're opening a
wine bottle.
Seven, when drilling into wood,
the drill bit can easily wander away from
the center. Screw three
screws into the wooden board.
These will serve as
guides to stop it from slipping.
Then you can drill the
hole much more smoothly.
Eight, stick a piece
of tape onto the board.
Mark two guide points on it.
Press a second board
firmly against the first.
The tape will transfer
onto the upper board.
Drill holes through the marked spots.
Finally, pack the holes
with wood shavings.
Both boards will join together with a tight fit.
Nine, hammer a nail
into the wooden board to
establish the center.
Set the desired
radius using a tape measure.
Then trace a perfectly round circle.
Experienced craftsmen
use this method all the time.
10, if an electrical plug gets
trapped behind
an obstacle, don't
immediately cut the cable.
Form a loop with the wire
and slide it underneath
the obstacle. Once
the plug goes through the loop,
you can pull it straight out.
11, cut the upper
section off a safety pin.
Fit it inside the handle of a pair of pliers.
Now even regular
pliers will
automatically spring back open.
