Regional Security Meeting Insights

you held a four- way meeting hosted by

the Islamic Republic of Iran,

and I asked you to tell us about this

meeting and the negotiations discussed at

this meeting.

Mr. Asim Munir,

Chief of the Pakistani Army,

in a meeting that

he had during his previous visit, about a week or ten days ago,

told me that

of Saudi Arabia,

and Mr. Ibrahim Kalin, head of

national security

of Turkey, could come so that we can both

congratulate you on your appointment

and talk about regional issues.

I accepted, and it was arranged that these

gentlemen would come today.

We had very good discussions.

I feel that a new atmosphere

has formed in the region.

Thanks to the resistance of the Iranian people

and the strength of the armed forces,

I sensed a very positive atmosphere in

what the gentlemen said.

All three believed that if our four

countries sit down together, many

Problems in the region will be resolved.

For this reason, we agreed that

these meetings should continue

to develop regional cooperation

and achieve a security arrangement.

We also formed a working group

that will work on expert issues

and present its findings between

each pair of meetings, so that we

can make decisions and move forward.

And

among

the outcomes that we

agreed on was that the security of every

region in which we live

must come from within,

meaning it must be

achieved by the countries

themselves.

And we must, in this region,

prevent every kind of foreign interference.

In particular, the issue

of Israel's occupation of many areas

was emphasized.

Israel must withdraw from southern Lebanon,

southern Syria, Gaza, and the West Bank of

the Jordan River, and it must stop these

acts of aggression.

My assessment is that
