Analysis of Young Football Talent in Spain
We are criticizing Alamin Jamal because we expected more from him.
Do you realize what that phrase means?
We are talking about a boy who just turned 19 from whom we demand that he be
the leader of a national team.
The player who makes the difference and the beacon that guides an entire country
towards the World Cup.
Are we aware of what we are asking of him?
He debuted with Spain in September 2023, right after
the national team had already triumphed and lifted a Nations League.
At 16 years old, he showed up at a European Championship, being
one of the most decisive players of the tournament.
He scored a goal for the history books against France in the semifinals,
to make a comeback. And he ended up lifting the title.
Then came another final, another Nations League, but it slipped away on penalties.
And now, at barely 19
having just turned [X] years old, he is back in a final with Spain.
Three consecutive finals since he debuted with the senior team.
Meanwhile, another generation of youngsters like Koubarsi, Nico,
Pedri and so many others who keep proving that the present and the
future of the national team are incredible.
He can also play some matches better, obviously.
Like any footballer,
as has been asked of Messi or Cristiano throughout their careers.
But the incredible thing isn't that he has better or worse days.
The incredible thing is that a
kid of his age has managed to make a
whole country expect him to decide the World Cup.
That speaks much
more about his stature as a footballer than about his quiet matches.
I don't care if he's a Barcelona player, I don't care.
When he plays for Barça, I'll have to suffer against him,
just like it happened with Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, or David Villa.
But in the Spain shirt, he represents everyone.
And when a talent like that appears in your country,
the smart thing is not to look for the slightest mistake, but to enjoy it.
Because players of this level rarely appear in a generation.
We have a treasure wearing red.
In a few years, when we look back,
we will probably realize that we were lucky to witness the start of
an era that we will remember for decades.
