Healing Emotional Wounds Through Neuroscience

Today I'm going to give you 10 years of therapy in two minutes. I'm a brain surgeon, and I'm going to show you how to make rapid progress in healing the wounds you've been carrying, the ones from your childhood, from broken relationships, from things that were said that can't be

unsaid, and from things that were done that can't be undone. Let's scrub in and get it done together as we heal from emotional wounds. Here's a fact, the wound lives in your brain, but healing happens in your mind. When something hurts you, your brain stores it, the sights, the sounds, the words,

the shape of the moment. That storage is real and it's physical, but here's where the hope of healing lies. Your brain doesn't have the final say in what that memory has to mean to you. Your mind does, and your mind is not the same thing as your brain. That's the fourth commandment of self-brain surgery.

Here's the neuroscience nugget for you. Emotional memories get encoded in circuits involving the amygdala and hippocampus, but every time you recall a memory, it becomes temporarily unstable, and it gets rewritten via a process

called reconsolidation. That means every time you revisit a wound, you have a fresh chance to change how it's stored. So here's the operation. The next time an old wound surfaces, don't just

relive it, operate on it. Reframe it while it's open. Ask yourself, what's the truest, most redemptive way to understand this moment now? What do I know now that I didn't know then? What can I forgive now that I couldn't have forgiven then? What can I change about the way I think about myself that I didn't

understand then? Before you let the memory loop close, operate on it. The Bible says this, "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." That's Psalm 147:3, and you can start binding your

wounds up today too. I'm your friend, Dr. Lee Warren, hopefully your favorite internet brain surgeon. Hit that follow button, and together we'll build brains that know how to

heal emotional wounds. God bless you.
