Employment Termination and Asset Disclosure
I recently heard this crazy story about working in
the Netherlands, right, which I want to share
and hopefully get some feedback from you guys
as well for those who might have experience with it.
So I was at an event on Saturday
and someone shared this story, disclaimer, the story has not been verified.
So this is all hearsay.
This is all hearsay, hearsay.
But I did my research after that
and I found some things that actually might make the story plausible.
So I'm wondering if some of you also have experience with that, right?
So the story goes like this.
I think without necessarily mentioning the specific country, a Western African country,
someone from there who lives in the Netherlands and works here,
so he's employed in the Netherlands or supposedly employed in the Netherlands,
went home for a wedding, right, and took colleagues with him for his wedding.
While the colleagues were there for his wedding, they were lodged at a hotel,
right, lodged at a hotel.
I'm not sure if they were lodged there for free
or if they had to pay themselves, but they were lodged at a hotel in the West African country.
And somehow, somehow, via, via, the guy who was getting married did not let his colleagues know.
But somehow, via,
via, information got to the colleagues and eventually to the employer
that the wedding or the hotel they stayed at was owned by the guy who was getting married.
So he owns, he owns the hotel.
And apparently, upon coming back to his job.
he was fired right and the reason they gave for that is his income in the netherlands
does not match owning a hotel of that nature of course that's all i heard and i was like wait what
you know what i mean like what and i went digging
i was like is that even something which is which has legal basis and
asked a few people around there like yeah sure like you have to declare
all your um assets and stuff like that before or you stated clearly your contract right
your company and the laws in your company so you have to declare that there's there's multiple nuances to that story
but i'm just wondering have other people had experience like that because
there's something in the netherlands where if you're if they can look into you you specifically
if your expenditures don't match your income a science of like fraud or you don't declare
you don't let the company or the employer know that you have certain streams of income or assets
all those things can lead to termination of employment that's for sure
but i'm wondering if other people have had experiences where especially coming from like african countries
where like assets like i don't know real estate hotels or inheritances and stuff like that
i'm leaving inheritance this falls under that but if those have led to termination of employment
it sounded crazy to me and i looked it up and
i was like oh there's actually basis for this but i'm wondering how many people have experience with it
so you have experience with that please let me know in the comment section
i'll be interested to learn more
