But perhaps it'd be useful just to set out the current context for your listeners on what the law is on circumcision in this country. So there's no legal requirement for circumcisers to be medically trained. There's no requirement to have proven expertise.
Doctors who have been struck off the medical register for dangerous circumcisions can still legally circumcise boys. So you can you can legally circumcise a boy, Nick. All of your listeners can do as well. And we've had two criminal convictions last year. So these were, yeah, ritual circumcises, Mohammed Al-Azawi and Mohammed Siddiqui. So Al-Azawi was jailed for five years in January for actual bodily harm, child cruelty. So he wasn't using anesthesia
during some of his circumcisions. Siddiqui was jailed for nine years for grievous bodily harm, so wounding with intent. And we've had two coroners calling for the law to be changed. They've issued the government with what are called prevention of future deaths report, saying that this legal arrangement is endangering the lives of children and the government needs to act. The two judges in these criminal cases last year have also called for change as have
