New Appointment Announcement in Diocese

I've been really surprised, as you can imagine, to hear about this appointment. There's a strange mixture of feelings, a sense of gratitude and trepidation at the same time. I'm excited and curious about what lies ahead, and beneath everything there's a real sense of peace.
I'm grateful to Pope Leo for appointing me and putting his trust in me, and to Archbishop Richard Moth for all his care for the diocese over these years. I'm sad to be leaving the Venerable English College in Rome and the Diocese of Westminster, which has been my home for so long, but I'm overjoyed at the thought of coming to Arundel and Brighton, getting to know the people and working together to build God's kingdom.
Coming from a landlocked diocese where the biggest hill is no taller than a London bus, I'm really excited about doing some wild swimming and exploring the South Downs. I will need a lot of prayers and support. I hope that even with all my weaknesses I can be a loving shepherd, a spiritual father and a brother too.
I know that if we put our trust in Jesus and Mary and if we always try to serve and love one another then we can't go wrong.
