Protests and Hunger Strikes in India

On September 20, 1932, Gandhi ji began a fast unto death.

Four days later, on September 24, the Poona Pact was signed.

And on September 26, within just four days, the British

government accepted it and ended Gandhi ji's fast.

Now in 1984, Sonam Wangchuk's father, activist Sonam Wangyal,

went on a fast unto death demanding Scheduled Tribe status for Ladakh.

And within a few days, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi

intervened in the matter and ended his fast.

On August 16, 2011, Anna Hazare demanded a strong Jan Lokpal Bill against

corruption and began a fast.

And after just 12 days, on August 28,

the then Congress government agreed to the key issues related to Jan Lokpal in

Parliament, and his fast was ended.

Then in 2018, Professor GD Agarwal demanded that the Narendra Modi- led

BJP government free the Ganges from pollution.

But for 111 days, no one listened to him or paid any attention,

and on the 112th day of his hunger strike, he passed away.

And today is July 17, 2026, and Sonam Wangchuk has been on a hunger strike

unto death for over 19 days.

He is fighting for a better future for the country's students, but this deaf, mute,

and merciless government has turned a completely deaf ear.

Before those who went on hunger strikes unto death for the country,

let alone Congress,

even the British rule bowed down.

And today, the BJP government,

which talks about making the country a global leader,

bringing Amrit Kaal and Ramraj,

has shown that their ego and hunger for power have grown so much that they can

neither see the scientist's hunger strike nor the future of the country's children.

Shame on such a ruthless and shameless government.
