Understanding Quranic Concepts of Faith
Allah Almighty says, “Indeed, those who… indeed, those who disbelieve after believing”
then increase in disbelief.” Who are these people? As I said, no one will answer you.
Rather, perhaps no one can imagine it. Perhaps they cannot imagine
that many Muslims believe that some of the
Companions apostatized during the Prophet’s time, peace and blessings be upon him.
Otherwise, what does “those who disbelieve after believing” mean? All right, when they were believers,
were they Companions or not? They were Companions.
All right, they disbelieved after believing.
Thus, the sectarian conception has overwhelmed the Qur’anic conception.
The sect
pursues the Qur’an relentlessly. It pursues it in every corner,
to the point that we can hardly read a verse.
These verses,
we read them while fearing that perhaps the episode will stop, that something might happen to it.
Something.
In any case, let us continue.
Allah Almighty says, of course, here “the astray,” as I said, “Indeed, those
who disbelieve after believing
then increase in disbelief, their repentance will never be accepted, and they are the astray.”
If we explained Surat Al-Fatiha, we would know what “those who incurred wrath”
and “the astray” mean. Because, generally speaking, they always say
Those who incurred wrath, or as we were taught, those who incurred wrath are the Jews, and the astray are
the Christians. Here, who turned out to be included in this verse? Companions who apostatized.
Those who disbelieved after their faith then increased in disbelief,
their repentance will not be accepted, and they are the astray.
So these turned out to be included.
We discovered that some believers are astray, certainly.
The ideal definition of the astray and those who incurred wrath is this: those who incurred wrath are those for whom you gather
all the verses of the Holy Quran in which God's wrath is upon a people or an action,
and place it all within
the category
of those who incurred wrath and the astray. Everyone whom God describes in the Quran as
astray falls within the category of the astray, whether they are
Muslims, Jews, Christians, or disbelievers.
They fall under this category. Those upon whom You have bestowed favor are also the path of those upon whom
God has bestowed favor: the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous.
This, too, has Quranic definitions. Righteousness has a definition, it is not
righteousness in the general conceptual sense. Righteousness in the Quranic sense has
a very elevated definition.
That means prophets attain righteousness after they are sent as prophets.
There are verses where we use righteousness in its elevated sense, not
righteousness in its common or popular sense.
In the popular sense, a man who prays and fasts is righteous even if
he is unjust, a thief, treacherous, and a liar. A righteous man, God bless him,
he goes to the mosque
and uses a siwak, his beard perfumed. That's it.
That's the naive meaning. The Quranic meanings are far higher than this
by far. In any case.
