We just wanted to bring you the very latest breaking news that we're just getting in now.
It's about the Olympics because the Ukrainian skeleton racer who wore a helmet featuring athletes who
have died during the war in Ukraine has been disqualified. He's been chucked out of the games.
So this is Vladyslav Heraskevych. He was the nation's flag bearer at the opening ceremony last week
and he's been training in that helmet you can see on your screens now on Monday,
saying some of the people pictured were his friends.
He had been visited by the International Olympic Committee official who
warned him he's in breach of the Games' rules around political statements, but he said it was too important, he wanted to do it anyway.
Yeah, the rules obviously, as Sophie says, don't allow political statements.
In the last 24 hours he's been asked about this whilst he was waiting for the IOC's decision.
And he said, "I believe we all have the right to wear these, these types of statements."
"I believe the IOC doesn't have enough black armbands to honor all of the athletes,"
saying that any other attempts to kind of honor them doesn't do it justice and
saying that they deserved to have a place in the Games, these, these individuals.
I mean, I think, you know, you have to say rules are rules, but
is this a, a sort of unnecessarily sort of small, small fry one relative to what's being said here?
And I think the thing that you can definitely agree on is that
this man, Heraskevych, has made his point very, very strongly. You know, on Instagram he previously said
he felt the Olympics Committee is betraying the athletes who are part of the Olympic movement,
not allowing them to be honored on the sports arena
where these athletes will never be able to step again.
Um, so that just broke in the last few minutes that he has been removed from the Olympics.
