Improving US-China Relations Discussion

As for our relationship with the US, it is just like our relationship with any other country in the world.

Of course, we hope to be good friends and make friends with all countries in the world.

I have also publicly spoken about the kindness the US has shown us in the past.

We are not people who break faith or forget favors, so we also hope to continue to strengthen our ties with the US.

Many people ask me, "Then you have to choose between the US and China."

I say, "Only children choose. Why can't I choose both?"

On one side are our relatives, so our connection with mainland China—this bloodline and thousands of years of culture—can never be severed.

But we should also maintain a very good relationship with the US.

Ultimately, what I hope for most is that US-China relations can improve.

If these two global superpowers would stop trading harsh words every day, where a single disagreement makes everyone worry they will fall out,

and instead engage in rational dialogue, or even make friends and cooperate in certain key areas,

So I have been constantly emphasizing this. When I visited the US and met with many international friends, I also kept emphasizing this point.

We hope to end the kind of opposition and confrontation, the military opposition and confrontation, of the Cold War era in the last century,

So I am also very pleased to see that, following the Trump-Xi summit in May, it looks like General Secretary Xi Jinping will smoothly pay a return visit to President Trump in the US in late September.

I hope the US and China can establish a new paradigm for a new century—a new paradigm, a new paradigm for US-China relations,

where there is no more talk of war and killing, which makes everyone worry about a military conflict in the Taiwan Strait.

Not to mention the Taiwan Strait, now even the East China Sea, Yellow Sea, and South China Sea feel thick with the smell of gunpowder and rising tensions.

But many things can change in an instant, as long as both the US and China express their willingness to foster peaceful and stable regional relations.

I believe peace is just around the corner and is absolutely achievable.

Conversely, if the military arms race continues, it is inevitable that an accidental clash might occur one day, which is something we do not want to see.
