Understanding the Book of Tawheed

What's the name of this book?

“Tawhid,” written by Sheikh Muhammad ibn Abd

al-Wahhab. Ever since I was in high school at Al-Azhar,

I always heard about Wahhabism.

“Beware of Wahhabism,” to the point that once, on my way after I had gone to

college, I didn't even know what Wahhabism meant

or what the Book of Tawhid was. By God, this happened as I was going to

my college exam. There was a man on the train, I take the train.

He gave me a small book. I hadn't even read what the book was called.

I just took it in my hand, that was all.

I entered the exam room.

The proctor

was collecting anything you had with you in the exam room.

He took the book and looked at it. Then he looked at me. “You Wahhabi, you.”

“By God, I don't know anything.” I said, “What does Wahhabi mean? You're a Wahhabi.”

“I'll show you.”

“Sir, just wait. What's in this book? What's in it?” He kept me

occupied throughout the exam. “What is this book?”

Glory be to God!

What's in this book?

I finished the exam alone, of course, assuming there was no cheating.

Alone, with everyone far away. During the exam, look at your paper. Yes, sir.

I left the exam room. I wanted to know why he said that to me.

Then I went back on the train and got the book.

I read it and found it said, "Book." What book?

I read it as we have been reading it for nearly a year now.

Reading it, I found nothing but, "God said," "His

Messenger said." You...

He was an ordinary Muslim. Have you seen anything in this book that contradicts

what the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, brought, or what the four brought?

The four?

I am asking you, did I say anything objectionable?

Did I say anything that does not say, "God said"?

That does not say, "The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said"?

Then this man is wronged.

This man is wronged. He is one of the Muslim scholars.

He went to India.

He went to

India and tore off the cover of the Book of Monotheism. He took the book.

The cover bearing the book's title and the sheikh's name.

There was a scholar in India who would have people, meaning

his students, pray against and curse Sheikh Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab.

And he would spend every evening on this matter. So the man went to him and said, “Sheikh, I want”

you to read this book,” and he gave him an unnamed book.

The sheikh read the book, and after two days, he said, “This is a unique book

in its subject matter, and everything in it is true.” He got up

and showed him the cover. He said, “This is the man you curse every

day.” From that day on, he prayed for him every

day. So never judge anyone merely by what you hear.

Instead, delve into it yourself and understand it so that

you can judge. Anyway, the book is good.
