Overcoming Fear Through Faith
Dear brothers, among the greatest ways to break the shackles of fear
is love of the Hereafter
and longing for it,
and keeping one’s gaze fixed on it,
and fully bringing it to mind with complete certainty,
that what is with God is better and everlasting.
When the Hereafter is always before one’s eyes,
then, by God’s permission, it brings about this awareness.
Bringing the Hereafter to mind creates a state of strength
and courage in the heart that cannot be explained by material things.
The example is the magicians who believed: “So decree whatever you
decree. You can only decree in this worldly life.” Who were they saying these words to?
Who were they saying them to? To one who slaughtered children.
They said them to one from whom they had just heard the threat, “I will cut off your hands
and feet on opposite sides.”
What gave them patience? Remembering the Hereafter, believing in it,
certainty. They saw the proof before their very eyes and spoke the
eternal words:
“So decree whatever you decree. You can only decree in this worldly life.”
If this is not the slogan of the الأمة today, it will remain in a state of
weakness.
Gaza endured for two years, and people wept
until their tears dried up
They blamed one another until the blame and reproach ended.
So if Gaza's tragedy happens again now, what will happen? What has changed?
What has changed?
If the awareness and vigilance achieved over
the past two years are not a basic foundation for building
another step toward breaking the state of fear, terror,
and panic before anyone but God Almighty,
before the enemies, before the criminals, if this does not take hold in people's souls,
then the state of weakness will remain.
The tragedies will continue. Sudan is bleeding, and nothing will happen.
Nothing will happen.
If Gaza were attacked again, and I ask God Almighty to ward off all evil from it,
nothing will happen.
And the greatest disaster would be if Al-Aqsa Mosque were also demolished, what
would happen? In this state of weakness and fear, what would happen?
This is how you think now.
If tomorrow that filthy criminal demolished Al-Aqsa Mosque, just think,
what would happen?
You know that politically, no one would do anything.
The statements are well known, and so on. Thank God statements are issued, I mean,
at least, I mean
Nothing is going to happen, nothing is going to happen, and you know it, and we have known from history for decades that nothing is going to
happen.
On the political level, no one is going to do anything.
So if Al-Aqsa Mosque is demolished, who will do anything?
If people are constrained by a state of fear,
what will happen?
Is it right to always justify it by saying that
prudence and wisdom lie in safety and in what
is proper?
At the same time,
a person needs a state of sound judgment
that is in accordance with what God Almighty loves, so that when he
acts, he acts with clarity, and when he refrains, he refrains
with clarity,
He advances where God wants him to advance,
and retreats where God wants him to retreat.
But what motivates advancing or retreating is not merely
fear or cowardice.
Rather, the motivation is first deep faith, then
religious duty,
enlightenment and guidance,
knowledge and insight.
But knowledge and insight will not benefit— a scholar will not benefit from knowledge and insight
unless there is courage and strength
within his heart.
Therefore, today we are required
to dispel the cloud of fear.
And the cloud of humiliation and disgrace
surrounding us everywhere. This can only be achieved by giving
the Hereafter centrality and deeming this world insignificant.
We must regard this world as insignificant.
We must regard this world as insignificant. Folks, what is this world?
People around us are being snatched away. One dies in an accident. He's 17 years old.
He's 20 years old. That's it, he's gone on to the Hereafter.
This one had a stroke. Then COVID came, and he contracted the
coronavirus and died. This one died of cancer.
This world is nothing.
I ask you, how many people under 25 do you know who have died
whether in accidents, from illnesses, diseases, strokes, or
for any reason? How many? How many do you know? They're gone. They vanished.
How many people older than that have worries and sorrows
and financial problems, health problems, family problems, and social problems
and so on? So many.
This world is not Paradise. We were not created to live here.
We were not created to remain here forever. We were created
to build for ourselves there in Paradise.
We were created to escape God's punishment and worship
The Creator, glory be to Him, with insight, with light, with proof,
and we sacrifice in this life and remain steadfast in His cause.
So if He decrees, glory be to Him, that we live in an era
where falsehood prevails, then faith must nourish our hearts
in a way that makes us unafraid of this falsehood.
Brother, there are people whom God decreed to place in periods when
Islam was mighty and had no need for it.
Praise be to God, that is how our Lord chose for them.
But God also chose for His prophets to live through the crisis
of fear.
God chose for His beloved ones and His saints to live through the crisis of fear.
Prophets were killed. Who are you?
Who are you, O center of the universe? Prophets were killed. Don't you know? A prophet was killed.
They killed them
as God, glory be to Him, mentioned. He mentioned the Jews who killed the prophets.
And they also kill those among the people who command justice.
Prophets were killed.
God's saints were killed.
Before the Prophet's very eyes, Hamza, the Lion of God, is felled,
cut to pieces.
And you think that when he was killed, I mean,
what's-his-name
What do you mean, his body was like that? There was nothing left, it was chopped to pieces.
Mus'ab ibn Umayr, whom the Prophet, may Allah bless him
and grant him peace, sent—the Chosen One, may Allah bless him and grant him peace— to teach people their religion.
This one was chopped to pieces on the ground.
Anas ibn al-Nadr.
The one about whom Allah Almighty said: “Among the believers are men who were true to what
they pledged to Allah. Some of them fulfilled their vow, and some of them
are still waiting, and they have not changed at all.” No one recognized Anas except his sister, who recognized him
by his fingertips and fingers. As for his face, it had no features left. He departed as one of Allah's righteous saints,
one of the companions of the Chosen One, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
Prophets were killed.
The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “I was threatened for Allah's sake in a way no one
had ever been threatened.” There was no one, people weren't— The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace,
was threatened and harmed, but he remained steadfast and patient.
He confronted those polytheists with the word of truth
and with proof, clarification, and evidence, while they
mocked, laughed, confronted him,
plotted, and schemed. Then Allah permitted him
to migrate, so he fought them at Badr until they were cut down,
When the ranks were shaken at Hunayn by the surprise of
the ambush,
and there was some conceit in their hearts, or in some hearts,
and the people turned away, scattered, and fled, the Chosen One peace and blessings be upon him, stood firm.
He spoke those immortal words: "I am the Prophet, no lie.
I am the son of Abd al-Muttalib." He stood firm there, peace and blessings be upon him, just as he stood firm in every
situation. As Al-Bara said: "When the battle grew fierce, we sought shelter
with the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, this Chosen One, peace and blessings be upon him."
Tell me about the feelings of the Companions when the Arabian Peninsula apostatized after the Prophet's death, peace
and blessings be upon him, except for a few people,
and news came that the armies had reached the outskirts of Medina,
while the main army of the Companions had been sent by Abu Bakr al-Siddiq to Greater Syria under the command of Uthman ibn
Zayd. Tell me about the feeling of fear in that situation.
They did not waver or become unsettled.
You see, it is not a problem
for the heart to feel some fear. That is not the problem.
The problem is when these feelings turn into a decision
It makes a person withdraw from arenas where he must remain steadfast
in them,
or these feelings may prevent him from
a duty
or hurl him into something forbidden.
But the mere presence of feelings in one's heart, in one's heart, is innate and natural.
But they do not control a person or prevent him from remaining steadfast, nor
do they prevent a person from upholding the truth. So, dear brothers, we are now speaking about
the level of the Ummah,
We're now speaking about the Ummah in general, the Ummah
