Political Protests and National Identity

When a country's government begins to feel threatened by some of its own citizens in a

public park by hoisting their country's national flag, the tricolor,

and starts deploying police in the thousands to detain those youths,

then hoisting that tricolor becomes even more necessary. Go ahead, detain them.

When these people arrested CPJ's Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka, they said

they had arrested them not for hoisting the tricolor, but for entering JDU's

office without permission and entering Jantar Mantar, and sent them to jail for five days.

Fair enough, but today, weren't all these people, individually,

with the tricolor in their hands,

heading toward a public park? And to stop them from hoisting it,

even the High Court and Supreme Court had said no. So why illegally...

What logic do you have for detaining us today? You keep saying that we

won't let this country become Nepal or Bangladesh,

but you're doing exactly the same things.

The trigger point for Nepal's youth taking to the streets was the government's social

media ban.

And the speed at which the internet, people's accounts, and their content are being

taken down in this country, then who is turning this country into Nepal, the government

or the youth?

Similarly, the biggest reason Bangladesh's youth took to the streets was the rigging in

an effigy of a cockroach will also be burned. Now, if inspired by this, the entire country this Dussehra

starts burning effigies of a fifty-six-inch little monkey, then there will be a cultural shock

and they'll start making reels while crying.
