Let's be direct. Mark Carney has become the only G7 leader to plunge his economy into a recession.
He is the only G7 leader to have three of the last four trimesters negative.
In fact, he is the only G7 leader whose economy is smaller today than it was a year ago.
Before I start finding excuses for Mark Carney, let me ask you a simple question.
If it is really the customs tariffs or the global factors that are at stake,
why aren't France, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States in a recession?
They all face the same challenges, the same tariffs, the same global factors,
but it is only Mark Carney's economy that is in a recession.
Before that, Mr. Carney had famously said to a journalist, and I quote,
Look within yourself.
If I could address Prime Minister Mark Carney directly,
Mr. Carney, I would use one of your expressions.
Look within yourself.
Mr. Carney, why are you the only G7 leader to have plunged your economy into a recession?
All the other G7 countries that face the same tariffs and the same global challenges
as Canada are growing.
So why is your economy, Mr. Carney, in a recession?
The only one in a recession.
According to Statistics Canada, some global factors have helped Canada.
In fact, the increase in oil prices has added growth to our economy.
So global factors are helping us.
But, unfortunately, this help has been cancelled by domestic factors.
And that's why Canada is the only G7 country in a recession.
We don't need excuses.
Excuses won't put food on the table for the 2.2 million people
who had to go back to a food bank.
Excuses won't bring back the jobs of the 120,000 people
who lost their jobs during the first three months of this year,
when Canada is the only G7 country in a recession.
The real reason is all the anti-development laws
that Liberals have adopted over the past 10 years, which are still in place.
The reason is the doubling of our deficit by Mr. Carney.
The reason is the fact that Mr. Carney is spending more on the economy
than in all the years, except for COVID, since 1996.
The reason is the industrial carbon tax, which Mr. Carney has increased six times.
The reason is that the Carney government is blocking 500 economic projects
that are in the works for construction permits.
We don't need big speeches, signing ceremonies, or another trip.
We need Mr. Carney to return to the House of Commons
to reverse all the Liberal economic policies
that have delivered the worst economy in the G7 for 10 years
and which make us the only country in a recession today.
We need to eliminate the C-69 law,
the prohibition of driving oil from British Columbia,
the elimination of the industrial carbon tax,
the tax on capital gains for reinvestments here in Canada,
the reduction of taxes on jobs, housing construction, energy, and investment.
That's how we're going to free our economy and give people a more affordable life,
stronger paychecks, and affordable housing.
That's the Conservative vision.
We want to re-establish the Promise of Canada,
a country that is the richest in the world,
a country that is affordable,
a country with opportunities for all our citizens.
