Impact of Solar Energy on Olive Farms
This was an olive tree.
First, they cut off its top, and
then they uprooted it.
And this is how it remains,
with its roots completely exposed.
There used to be an entire olive grove here.
And the trees you see on the horizon,
still standing, are also going to be uprooted.
An olive tree takes between five and eight years
to start producing olives in a significant way.
These, in particular, were over 50 years old.
A solar power plant is going to be installed on this land.
These types of projects exist in different parts of Spain.
One hectare of solar panels can generate
electricity for several hundred homes a year.
Some support this type of project because
they contribute to the production of renewable energy.
And some oppose them due to the loss of agricultural land.
and of already established olive groves.
What do you think of what you're seeing?
