Discussion on Animal Welfare Legislation

The most publicly debated topic,

which related to my veto

and how the law can be improved

for the good of both people and animals

was the chain law.

I don't know if you remember,

but for two weeks they tried to make me out to be someone

who hates animals and is ready to wage

the greatest war and fight against them.

Just because a bad law was prepared,

demonstrations took place, ladies and gentlemen,

so many politicians incited this political dispute,

when for me, for my family, animals are very important,

though never more important than another human being and people,

that is obvious.

So much clamor, ladies and gentlemen.

So much shouting, so many attacks, so many happenings, so many demonstrations.

And thanks to social activists and the hard work of the President's Chancellery

suddenly we draft the anti-chaining law,

which is good both for people and for animals.

And look,

dogs are let off their chains and no one was harmed.

The veto also has this power,

to adapt the law to the needs of both people and animals,

ladies and gentlemen.
