It is just past 6 p.m. She has been brought in by two investigators.
She walks quickly, hiding her face.
Yesterday, in the busy entertainment district in northern Osaka,
the person arrested in the act for violating the Anti-Prostitution Law was a 19-year-old woman.
Furthermore, about two hours later, a 23-year-old unemployed woman was also taken away by the police.
In yesterday’s large-scale crackdown, the police arrested five women between 19 and 23, including these two,
on suspicion of standing on the street to solicit customers for the purpose of prostitution.
According to the police, all five have admitted to the charges,
and one of them said it was to contribute to the sales of the host she lives with.
She is believed to have earned about 15 million yen over about one year.
The other women reportedly said it was to pay for idol group concert tickets
and for orthodontic treatment costs, among other reasons.
Customer-soliciting in the same period showed no sign of stopping, and in December last year,
the police and others made use of people’s tendency to avoid noticeable places
and repainted the road yellow. Although a certain effect was observed,
since around last month, acts believed to be solicitation have been gradually increasing,
and the police plan to step up patrols.
