Discussion on Imam Hussein's Legacy
This is what the Imam, peace be upon him, made clear by saying,
And his call on the day of Ashura:
Where is Umar ibn Sa'd? Call Umar for me. So he was called. He was reluctant and did
not want to come to him, so he said:'
O Umar, Are you going to kill me?
Do you claim that the illegitimate son
of the illegitimate son will appoint you over the lands of Rayy and Gorgan?
By Allah, you will never enjoy that, ever, a binding covenant.
So do what you will do, for you will not rejoice after me in this world nor in
the hereafter. It is as if I can see your head on a cane, raised in Kufa,
with boys throwing things at it and using it as a target among themselves.'
Umar became furious at his words, then turned his face away from him and
called out to his companions:' What are you waiting for with him?
Attack all together, it is but a single meal!' Peace of Allah be upon
Imam Hussain. He had also told him about this matter many years
before the Battle of Karbala. On the day they were in Medina, Umar ibn Sa'd said
to Hussain, peace be upon him:' O Aba Abdillah, there are foolish people
among us who claim that I will kill you.' So Hussain said to him: '
They are not foolish, but rather they are forbearing.
Indeed, it gladdens my heart that you will not eat the wheat of Iraq after me
except for a little.'
