Turkey's Military Base in Somalia
Some breaking news. Turkey has built a military base in
Somalia,
but Israel is panicking because Israel is now sandwiched between
Turkey on one side and Turkey's missiles on the other.
This new Turkish base sits on the coast about 70 kilometers away from
the capital, and what Turkey has built there
is a rocket launch site.
Turkish soldiers are guarding that site, and their orders are to be there until
2028. Now, Turkey says it's a space port built for
putting satellites into orbit, but reports say it's also being used to
test
ballistic missiles as well. Those missiles fly over 2,000
kilometers. That's not far enough to reach into
Israel, but it is
far enough to reach into the new base that Israel is also building in
Africa. Back in December, Israel became the only country on Earth to
recognize
Somaliland, and since then, Israel has been hunting across
Somaliland for somewhere to build a base.
They want a base close enough to reach the Houthis in Yemen.
The spot Israel is looking at is about 260 kilometers away from them.
Israeli teams have already flown out and surveyed the Somaliland coast.
They actually rented hotels with blast-proof windows whilst they did
it. Turkey's largest drone maker actually
calls Somalia part of its,
quote, "heartland geography." That's a Turkish
company calling another
country part of Turkey's own backyard.
But those Turkish missiles close to Israel are only one half of the
sandwich. Turkey has also signed over 40 agreements
with
22 different Syrian ministries, tying them to their
government. Israel looks at that and sees Turkey is not only building in
Africa, but they're also expanding into the
country that literally borders
Israel, and tensions are rising. Only last month, Israel bombed a
military base being operated by Turkey within Syria.
But Israel's own newspapers are calling this new Turkish base in
Somalia a
threat to Israel's own security. Turkey is above Israel in Syria,
but as well as that, they're now building a base next to where
Israel is building a
base, too. It's a matter of time until they clash,
and that could end
badly. But there is something important.
