Visa Policy Changes and National Security Concerns

Uh, regarding the visa relaxation

measures announced

by Minister Yamatani,

for visas allowing a stay of up to

90 days per visit—

well, this was already

the case before—

with this multiple-entry visa,

you can travel back and forth,

and stay for up to 90 days

each time.

Well, the validity period of this visa

was extended

to 10 years.

This is actually quite

a big deal.

In other words, intelligence gathering,

as well as the acquisition

of land and buildings

within Japan—

all kinds of activities

can easily be carried out

even on a tourist visa,

because there is

plenty of time.

Well, as for what the US

will do going forward,

whether they keep their current

strict measures, or President Trump

again sets some conditions

to use in a deal,

saying,

"We will ease visas a bit,

but in exchange,

you must accept these terms"—

whether they do that or not,

we do not know, but...

For the Japanese government,

without making any deal—

for example, releasing Japanese citizens

who are currently caught

and detained on suspicion

of anti-espionage law violations—

without making any deal whatsoever,

to announce

relaxation measures

regarding visas

for Chinese citizens—

well, regarding

that matter,

I simply cannot

accept it.

Well, as I have

repeatedly mentioned

before,

China is a country with laws like the National

Intelligence and Defense Mobilization laws,

and I believe that is something

we must not forget.
