There are some things I remember, I mean, and they were

really hard on me. For example, when we got to the last two grades,

the last two grades… Every year… every week, every Friday,

a guy from the army would come to train us, train the class in military drills,

like left, right, left… from here.

And in the summer they would go up for about three weeks

to the mountain…

I mean to a camp of the Lebanese army and so on and so on. So, we started the year,

all sitting… we got ready… we put on khaki

and we were all sitting in one class… And the sergeant, the Lebanese sergeant,

comes in and says… We’re going to start the drills.

So a guy named— I remember his name— Shahin… he raises his hand and says…

He says to him,“ What… what’s the problem?”

He tells him,“ There are Jews here.”“ There are Jews here?”“ Yeah, there are Jews.”

“ Who’s Jewish here?” My brother and I.“ Get out.” We were told to get out,

and they put us outside, meaning that we wouldn’t even train what?

Marching with them in the Lebanese army.

And that we wouldn’t be with them where? In the camp… the summer camp.

I remembered this my whole life. When I came back in…

In 1982 in Lebanon, I went back to school. I went back to school wearing

the Israeli military uniform.

And at that time I was a muqaddam, a lieutenant colonel.

So I told them,“ Do you remember? You did not want me to train… You did not…

you did not accept that I train with you… because you… you, I am a Jew.

Now look at me, I came and I invaded Lebanon…

And now you are under our control. That is what happened.

This is something I can never forget at all.
