Changes in Syria Post-Regime Shift

Greetings to you, an Alawite from Dreikish. A year and a half after the regime change, let me tell you what has changed.

You used to send your son to the army for seven or eight years, not knowing when he would return,

only for him to return as a lifeless corpse, or half-disabled.

You would sell a container of oil just to send him allowance for the army,

or sell the cow to send him allowance for the army, while Abu al-Beesh would only feed him a single potato.

Let me tell you, your son used to only see a kilo of bananas on a phone screen,

Today, you are eating bananas just like any other fruit available in Syria.

During the days of the regime and that pack of pigs, it cost five dollars,

The Fourth Division wanted four dollars in escort fees for a kilo of bananas.

You used to wait at the gas station for 30 hours, sleeping in your cars,

with the smart card, just to fill up ten liters of gasoline or diesel.

Let me tell you, you would wait seven hours for electricity just to get 20 minutes or half an hour,

And after that, it turns off until it charges the phone equivalent to ten percent of its battery.

Dreikish is so small. When you passed through Dreikish,

there were five traffic police checkpoints. Every traffic cop, as you drove by, would have his hand open like this.

The proof is that the corruption network in Syria

was dominant from the lowest to the highest military rank, like leukemia.

Today, if you pass through any area in Syria, I dare you to gouge my eye out if a public security officer takes five liras from you.
