Gaza Tunnel Operations and Conflict Update

Entering Gaza, the setting for three years of war and destruction since October 7th. This is the city of Shejaiya, in the north of the Gaza Strip. We are standing where there used to be homes.
Nearby, there was a school. All of this has been destroyed since the start of the war, to target what lies beneath-- the tunnels. We're now entering this tunnel, discovered just eight months ago by the IDF here in central Gaza, as they continue their
operations to clear out the Gaza Strip beyond their side of the yellow line. And you can see just how complex this tunnel system is. There's another entrance here, this other area. All of these tunnels here were built underneath
civilian areas. So the Hamas terrorists and members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad and other organizations operating outside the Gaza Strip, they benefited from being in this subterranean labyrinth underneath these civilian areas. They were underneath where families
were living, where they were able to get access to their electricity and to their water. They also were able, then, to escape targeting from the IDF. The tunnels are complex. There are toilets, sinks, and even spaces for sleeping.
You can see there's wiring here, original wiring, that Hamas maintained, and also some mattresses down in this location where they would have slept. There's tiling here. Serious work has gone into maintaining this location. A light above me.
And in here as well, if you can just pop in there, you can see there are more spaces and shelving where they would have been kept. And just at the back of this room, there is also a mirror, a table here. Some of the IDF soldiers with us have said
that this is likely an area where Hamas officers and senior leadership would have slept while preparing their operations inside the Gaza Strip to target Israel. This is a blast door within this tunnel.
I suspect we're about well over 100 meters into this complex now. The IDF struggled to push through these doors when they were excavating these tunnels. This one only discovered eight months ago. But Hamas built these doors to store weapons, to store ammunition. This is some of the most critical areas
within their tunnel complex. Let's get inside. Another critical reason why these blast doors were put in place, they're useful tactically for tunnel fighting. Hamas would have been able to close these tunnels if IDF soldiers
breached them while they were inside, and fire through the slits, getting critical avenues of firepower without revealing themselves inside these cramped and contained areas. Would have been terrifying for IDF soldiers approaching these locations. So just to my right here, you can see a ladder.
The tunnel continues more, but right at the end there, you can see some rubble where the tunnel ends on this side, likely a collapse following some IDF operations around the area. But if you just come around this side, you can see the stairs.
The tunnel complex continues. We've walked through hundreds of meters of tunnel now. This tunnel was only discovered in February. An IDF commander told us that his team are still finding new tunnels. But the IDF only controls about
60% of Gaza. They fear that Hamas is busily rebuilding new terrorist infrastructure in its areas, preparing for new attacks. Just here you can see tiny evidence of human life. Maybe a glass bowl, maybe a cup.
This sweet design. Bit of copper or brass on the side. That's it. Around here, it's just destruction, just rubble. But underneath, where the terrorists still operate,
in a tunnel that we've just seen that was discovered only eight months ago, there are chairs, there are mattresses, there are perfect tiles that are laid in place. The civilians live in rubble, but the terrorists in Gaza, they still live
in relative comfort. Yes, they haven't got air conditioning in those tunnels, but they can still eat, do laundry, and sleep, and prepare their operations without being targeted by the IDF. Civilians in rubble, terrorists in tunnels.
Three years on from October 7th, a ceasefire is in place, but the fighting continues. Six thousand terrorists entered Israel from Gaza that day. Four thousand of them have since been killed. The IDF will not stop until the final two thousand have
been eliminated. Charlie Peters, GB News, Gaza.
