Government Operation Against ELN Terrorists

I want to inform you of an important
result achieved by our Public
Security Forces,
our men and women who day after day
defend freedom and democracy, the most
decisive blow in eight years
against the ELN narcoterrorist group
in the department of Cauca. On October 22,
I authorized the Public Security Forces to carry out Operation
Ónix in the rural area of the municipality of El
Tambo. The operation was directed against the
José María Becerra
Front, part of the
Southwestern War Front of that narcoterrorist group
of the ELN. The result was decisive.
Ten narcoterrorists belonging to that
organization
were killed in the operation.
Among them are those known as Marcos
Pacífico and Ochenta or Murillo,
two of the main leaders of that
structure.
Alias Marco Pacífico was one of the main
people responsible for the ELN's armed actions
in the country's southwest. He led the José
María Becerra Front and had influence over structures
operating in Cauca, Nariño, and Valle del Cauca.
Alias Marcos Pacífico spent more than twenty-four
years in the ranks of the ELN narcoterrorist

important, fundamental blow, and our Public Force
will continue acting to prevent them from regaining their
criminal capacity. Cauca is not
alone. Cauca is at the heart of the tiger.
Cauca has a president with the tiger, and we
will free it as we should, with the
determination of our police officers and soldiers who
each day, they risk their lives to restore the
security. We want to bring them peace of mind
to the Colombian people. We want to bring them hope and
peace by doing what must be done, defeating
narco-terrorism with total resolve and
patriotism. Thanks to our Police,
thanks to our Army, to our Navy, to
our Air Force, to those men and women who
make this country great with their courage.
Today more than ever, I stand firm for Cauca
and firm for the homeland. Long live Christ

Todo esto representa una afectación considerable para esa estructura narcoterrorista. La importancia de este resultado va más allá del municipio del Tambo. Se golpea a una organización con influencia en
varios departamentos del suroccidente. También se debilita su capacidad para disputar territorios y controlar corredores estratégicos hacia el Pacífico colombiano. No voy a decirles que con una sola operación termina la amenaza del ELN.
Estas organizaciones narcoterroristas pueden reorganizarse, pero hoy han recibido un golpe contundente, importante, fundamental, y nuestra Fuerza Pública continuará actuando para impedir que recuperen su capacidad criminal. El Cauca no está
solo. El Cauca está en el corazón del tigre. El Cauca tiene presidente con el tigre y lo vamos a liberar como corresponde, con la decisión de nuestros policías y soldados que diariamente arriesgan su vida para recuperar la
seguridad. Nosotros queremos llevarle tranquilidad al pueblo colombiano. Queremos llevarle esperanza y paz haciendo lo que hay que hacer, derrotando al narcoterrorismo con total decisión y patriotismo. Gracias a nuestra Policía,
gracias a nuestro Ejército, a nuestra Armada, a nuestra Fuerza Aérea, a esos hombres y mujeres que hacen grande a este país con su valor. Hoy más que nunca estoy firme por el Cauca y firme por la patria. Que viva Cristo
