And so you've really pioneered DNA sequencing of the, in the gut. And so what, you know, how has this changed the way that you view mental health from the, um, from the perspective of the gut? Like what are kind of lessons that you think might be interesting for our, for our listeners, many of which have are dealing with memory issues. So what's interesting is I see a signature, right? I saw a signature of microbes in anxiety. I saw a signature of microbes in bipolar disorder,
right? So different one for each you're saying. It's a, it's a, it's a, it's a signature meaning microbes are overgrown. Certain microbes are overgrown. Certain microbes are down, right? So when I saw this signature for bipolar disorder and the signature for, um, anxiety, I started asking the question is mental health, a gut dysbiosis, right? And when you start treating, right, innovating saying, well, you know what, I'm going to decrease these microbes that are
overgrown and I'm going to increase these microbes that are missing, right. With nutrients, with nutraceuticals, with whatever is in my toolbox in a way, because really it's the art of medicine, right? It's figuring out this microbe eats this, this microbe eats that, how do I feed this? And how do I feed that or feed less of that for that microbe, right? And so when you start innovating and you start improving the disease, in this case, mental health,
you can go back and say, okay, well, was I right? Did that signature change? So I'm seeing it in full time, right? I'm doing the research, I'm innovating, I'm gutsy enough to try different things, right? Because, you know, I always tell people to understand the microbiome, you have to attain a cure. To attain a cure, you have to practice the art of medicine. And to practice the art of medicine, you really have to be gutsy. I mean, we saw with COVID,
how many doctors were not scared to write hydroxychloroquine, how many doctors were not scared to write ivermectin, you know? So this is what it takes. It takes going with your gut feeling, treating a patient with the art of medicine, innovating with everything you've learned on the trenches of medicine. And then from there, going back and saying, okay, what changed in the microbiome? Oh, look at that. The microbe that was high is now down.
The microbe that was low is now up. I've attained a balance in my patient and my patient is better. So this is the, you know, remember, I'm the girl that did hundreds of clinical trials for pharmaceutical companies. I've studied those protocols. I didn't just do them and recruit patients for them. I studied these protocols. So for me to come out and say, look, you know, this is what we need to start embarking on. We need to start looking at the microbiome. Sure,
your drug is improving patients with Crohn's disease, but why is it improving patients with Crohn's disease? And how do we do better to stop that patient from taking these drugs lifetime so that it doesn't remind them that they're a patient? You know, nobody wants to be a patient. People want to go back to being, you know, enjoying their life, you know, gardening, going painting, going out with their friends, you know, nobody wants to, to be, Oh, it's Friday,
the fourth, I have to go get my injection. It's not a life. So I think that's the beauty of the microbiome is it may help us get there.
