Landslide Disaster Response in Tibet

News from this station: Around 10:30 a.m. on August 26,

due to a mudslide disaster on the Nepal side,

major casualties and missing persons were caused at Gyirong Port in Gyirong County, Xigaze, Tibet.

After the disaster occurred,

Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the State, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, attached great importance,

and issued important instructions, pointing out that

the top priority is to make every effort to search for and rescue missing persons,

relocate and resettle threatened residents,

promptly treat the injured, and minimize casualties to the greatest extent possible.

Monitoring and early warning must be strengthened, focusing on scientific rescue efforts,

to prevent secondary disasters.

Xi Jinping emphasized that as it is currently a critical period for flood control,

all regions and relevant departments must adhere to worst-case and bottom-line thinking,

earnestly implement flood and typhoon control measures,

strengthen the screening and remediation of risks and hazards,

resolutely prevent major disasters and accidents,

and ensure the safety of people's lives and property.

Li Qiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Premier of the State Council, instructed that

every effort must be made to verify the number of missing and affected people,

organize forces to carry out all-out search and rescue operations,

relocate endangered residents in a timely and orderly manner,

while ensuring scientific rescue and strictly preventing secondary disasters.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs must strengthen communication with relevant countries,

provide timely updates,

and work together to properly handle rescue and response efforts.

It is currently still the main flood season,

The national flood control and disaster relief offices must guide all regions to thoroughly screen for disaster risks,

strengthen hazard monitoring, early warnings, and risk mitigation and evacuation,

to ensure the safety of people's lives.

In accordance with Xi Jinping's important instructions and Li Qiang's requirements,

Zhang Guoqing, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier, led relevant department officials to the scene

to guide rescue and emergency response efforts.

Tibet has organized personnel to make every effort in on-site search and rescue operations.
