Debate on Germany's Energy Policy

The big energy plan, how does that work?

Does it work by saying we dismantle wind turbines and build nuclear plants?

Or does it work by saying we leave all of that standing

and build additional new nuclear plants, knowing what that costs?

The big energy plan has to be solved at the federal level.

That is not a state issue, we are writing that into our program.

But the government program states,

that the dismantling of wind turbines should be mandated.

The government program states that there is grandfathering

for current plants and that no further ones should be built.

We have 2,800 wind turbines.

You don't want to build any more?

The first question is, you spoke of large unit prices.

We have some of the highest energy prices

and electricity prices in the entire world.

That has to do with grid fees.

In East Germany, green energy is becoming a curse.

We have to be that honest.

People in Saxony-Anhalt then pay particularly much for electricity.

First of all, we fundamentally don't demonize anything.

We are open to technology.

And that also makes me so proud as an AfD member.

That is all fine.

Every 40th job in Saxony-Anhalt depends on this sector.

That is also a reality.

We acknowledge that.

But we say very clearly, it is just subsidized.

We just mentioned an example.

I mean, there are even more costs at the federal level,

when I think of that climate fund.

Also, I think, another 13 billion euros.

Yes, the government program states

that you want to cut off the e-car subsidies.

Well, that is the fundamental question now,

that we as a society have to ask ourselves.

Regardless of whether it is the AfD or not.

Do we want to subsidize a technology

and therefore promote it ideologically because we believe

that it is climate-friendly now, or whatever.

We just want to know, do you or do you not?

Well, we want to take a market-oriented, liberal approach and say,

for us, more important than how the global climate is in 500 years,

if Germany even has a share in it at all,

is how competitive we currently are.

What good does it do us if companies leave Germany?

That is currently happening across the board,

because they cannot pay the energy prices.

And at some point, we have to ask ourselves the question,

Is all of this worth it?

And we say quite clearly, no.

We simply have to approach this more realistically again, we must take immediate measures,

so that we have affordable energy.

Perhaps also, gladly, if this technology eventually develops to be competitive

even without subsidies.

Or once storage capabilities have progressed.

We are completely open to that.

But surely you must have a plan.

As someone who is supposed to shape policy, you can't just say, 'We'll just see

what happens, how it develops.'

That is the nice situation, the position that we have.

We can simply ask, what do you intend to do?

But you are running because you want to shape things.

You must have an idea of where the energy policy vision for the future lies.

Simply saying it is technology-neutral is code for "we have no idea"

and we are doing nothing at all.

That's right, the crucial answer just now was to remove the ideology.

We have a current energy transition in this country that is driven by ideology.

That is no secret.

They want to become climate-neutral.

And we say quite clearly that this is not proportionate, we see the realities,

we are experiencing them right now in Saxony-Anhalt, you mentioned the examples yourself, the Chemical Triangle.

The situation with automotive suppliers is also a consequence of this ideology.

Just ask VW how things are going there right now, or Mercedes-Benz.

How are things going there, then?

Great.

But Simon, isn't it...

And the consequence...

We are feeling the limits in Saxony-Anhalt. That's why we must get rid of this ideology.

Isn't it an ideology to say we want to go back to fossil fuels, we want to get them from Russia again, and we make ourselves dependent on them once more?

No, the ideology is saying, "I won't buy anything from him because he is evil."

That is ideological because I elevate myself morally and say, "I'd rather buy more expensively elsewhere to make certain geopolitical situations avoidable."

As a patriotic party, I would say that you should think about who is an aggressor, who threatens Europe, who doesn't, and whether you should absolutely make yourself dependent on them.

So regardless of how I feel about the energy transition or climate change, I'd say it is perhaps risky after all, and it won't bypass Magdeburg.

How successful was this great moral attitude we've had over the last four years? Where has it got us? How many lives has it protected in this conflict?

It wasn't Germany that turned off the gas, but Russia stopped delivering it.

We had no part in it. We were very well-behaved and said, 'Come on in.'

I know, that's a valid point.

Jeder 40. Arbeitsplatz hängt in Sachsen-Anhalt in diesem Bereich.

Aber Sie treten an, weil Sie was gestalten wollen.
