The biographical reports almost

agree that the age of the Prophet, peace be upon him,

at the time of his marriage to Khadijah was twenty- five years. As for Khadijah,

what is widely known is that she was forty years old,

and this is in fact a weak opinion, a weak opinion.

There are reports that Khadijah’s

may God be pleased with her,

was twenty- eight years when she married the Prophet,

by fifteen years, and that she died in the tenth year of the mission.

Meaning Khadija died in the tenth year of the mission, three years before the Hijra.

Is that right? Yes, that is what is

mentioned in the books of Sira.

Now, all of the Prophet’s children, peace be upon him, were from Khadija,

except Ibrahim, who was from Mariya al- Qibtiyya, in Medina. So all of the

Prophet’s children, peace be upon him, were from Khadija. So if we say that

Khadija’s age at the time of marriage was twenty- eight,

How old would she have been at death? Fifty- three years old. So this is the

appropriate view. In the matter of childbearing, bearing this number of children,

because she gave birth

to according to the stronger opinion, six children, two males and four females.

And it was said that she gave birth to eight children, four males and four females,

and I will examine this with you, God Almighty willing.

So according to this estimation, this calculation, the age of Khadijah,

may God be pleased with her, would have been twenty-

eight years, and this is the appropriate view.

But if we say that her age at the time of marriage was forty years,

how old would she have been at death? Sixty- five years, sixty- five years.

And this is undoubtedly a period of menopause, and

it is known about women that they reach menopause after

with regard to giving birth,

between forty and fifty,

and most often after forty she begins to reach menopause in terms of childbearing,

and this is the way of God Almighty in women in most cases.

A woman may give birth after fifty,

she may give birth at the end of her forties,

but these are rare and exceptional cases.

when she was sixty- five years old,

may Allah the Exalted be pleased with her and grant her satisfaction.

So the view closest to being correct

is that Khadija’s age at the time

of marriage and union with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him,

was twenty- eight.
