Mysterious Illness in Siberia Raises Concerns
A lab worker, uh, in Siberia has now passed away from
this mysterious illness. It has prompted Russian authorities to
quarantine
a couple dozen people and contact trace a couple of hundred
more. This, of course, prompting widespread fear online
and here at home. It has the attention of Secretary of State
Marco Rubio.
Take a listen.
There was a, an, uh, a worker at the lab that was infected, and
there's concern that that, you know, could have, uh, spread, uh, at, at
least internally, so you've seen them do quarantines that's
in that, uh, of that
nature. Um, there's very limited travel between the US
and Russia,
obviously. Uh, but like anything else, something like that gets out, it could
quickly spread. So we're watching and monitoring it closely.
Russian officials are not talking publicly, but they
are taking this threat
seriously. The country's top health official has
landed in the
region. The World Health Organization weighing in.
They say the threat to the general public right now is low, and that they are also
in touch with the Russian government.
Quote, "No cause of death has been officially
confirmed and lab testing is
reportedly underway. All the patients' contacts have reportedly
been
ID'd and are being monitored for illness.
None to date have shown symptoms."
