How Jesus Led Candace from Christianity to Islam
The thing that led me to becoming Muslim was
literally Jesus. Now, I was Christian, and when
I met my first Muslim, I found out that Muslims
actually believe in all the same prophets as
me from the Bible, and I was very shocked by
that. So where maybe most people research Islam,
I decided to research Christianity, and in doing
that, Jesus led me to becoming Muslim. I basically
researched passages about Jesus, what he did,
and I found out that Jesus actually prostrated
to God. That shocked me because I was like,
Muslims pray like that, but as a Christian,
I don't pray like my beloved Jesus, peace be
upon him. Like, that is so weird. I also read
passages where Jesus said, "I am not God. You
guys are evil if you're praising me like I am
God. I am nothing without my Lord." I also read
passages where Jesus himself said, "There's
gonna be somebody to come after me to confirm
that I'm not a liar, to prove that what I'm
saying to you is the truth," because the people
of his time thought he was a liar, thought he
was a magician. So then I started wondering,
like, okay, if somebody else is gonna come,
who would that be?
Then I started researching Muhammad, peace be
upon him, and I realized that him and Jesus
would have had the same mission. They were given
the same responsibility, duty, and mission by
God, and in my opinion, they would have actually
been brothers and they would have been companions.
They would have worked together to reveal God's
message. The last thing I really had to think
about was, I already believed in my Judgment
Day, and I had to think what kind of judgment
do I, Candace, want to have?
Do I want to meet with God and be like the group
of people who denied Jesus?
Because I thought that was so wrong. And I thought,
let's think critically. I didn't meet any of
these prophets. I have never met them, and I
have never seen God with my own eyes. It's called
faith for a reason. When I researched Islam,
there was nothing in it that made me think,
"Hmm, I shouldn't do this. Hmm, this message
is bad." Everything I researched, it actually
went hand in hand. It's the same thing. The
only difference is I believe a lot of modern
Christians aren't actually following the book
because they think they're forgiven so they
think they don't have to. Which brings me back
to the question: Why did God reveal a book,
a series of tons of messengers, and then say
like you don't need to follow the rules?
That doesn't make sense to me. So, my love of
Jesus, my worry about being arrogant to God,
literally led me to do my Shahada. That was
just the start. I had no intention of actually
practicing, but here I am. Alhamdulillah, it
literally led me... ...to reading the Quran,
and now I feel like it clarified the Bible,
it clarified all the stories of the prophets.
It made me a better Christian. It made me a
Muslim. And ultimately, that made me better
in my submission to God, which is the word Islam
means submission to God. And the word Muslim
means the person who submits to God. Why would
you not want to identify yourself as that if
you believe in Jesus and you love God?
