Critique of Football Fan Culture

So many people keep asking me, how can you be a Messi fan and still

criticize Argentina? You want to know why? Because I'm not a blind fan.

Man, I've supported Messi my whole life.

I've never been a Ronaldo fan, truth be told.

To me, Messi is one of the greatest

footballers this game has ever seen.

But this World Cup

opened my eyes to something bigger than football.

Yeah, being a fan should never mean switching off your values.

I can respect Messi's talent and still say I was disappointed by some of the

behavior I saw around Argentina during this tournament.

And guys, that's not the image of football I want to celebrate.

And that's the

Never admire someone so much that you stop holding

them to the same standards you expect from everyone else.

Talent can make you famous, yes, but character is what makes people respect you.

So for me, football has never just been about winning.

It's about how you win and how you lose.

That's the difference. Yeah.

And if you don't understand that, I can't help you.
