Irish Perspective on Palestinian Struggles
We were 700 years under the occupation of the British, our next door neighbour.
Probably the most powerful
empire that the world has ever seen.
And we didn't stop fighting, every generation,
for 700 years.
There was an attempt to remove the British and allow the Irish people,
who had their own culture, their own art, their own music,
their own writing, their own literature.
And we were denied that.
They tried to destroy our language, they tried everything.
But we would say, look,
for the Palestinian people, look to the Irish.
Our tiny, small amount of people against the biggest empire.
And we beat them, we got rid of them.
Now it took 700 years, but we finally got them.
So it's inevitable that Irish people are going to have a huge amount of sympathy
for the Palestinian people.
Because they are going through what the Irish people went through.
