Catholicism and the Bible Canon Debate

Why did Catholics add books to the Bible? They didn't.

Welcome to my series where I share one reason each day why I'm converting from

Protestantism to Catholicism. When I was Protestant, I genuinely

believed that Catholics added more books to their Bibles to support ideas like

purgatory and praying to the dead. But it turns out they didn't.

In the late fourth century, through various church councils, the early

church came to affirm the 73-book canon that Catholics use today,

and this collection of books was used by Christians for over 1,000

years.

Then, in the 1500s, during the Protestant Reformation,

the reformers rejected

seven of the Old Testament books, and some reformers even wanted to remove

the

Book of James because it contradicts the idea of faith alone.

So I had to ask myself, did God allow the church to use the wrong

Bible

for 1,100 years, or are the Protestants actually the ones

missing books from

their Bible? God bless.
