Climate and Nature Risks for Business, Security and Health
Kim Hui, one of those pillars is focused on, um,
climate, nature, and energy. Tell us a bit more about the
ongoing work, but also what we can expect to see in the
program.
Thank you, Saadia. Um, perhaps I can start by giving you some
context on nature and climate, uh, which has helped framed our programming.
One, businesses and governments are likely underestimating the risks
of what we're confronted with, uh, in the climate and nature space, not
surprisingly because w- the weather events are unprecedented,
so it's very
difficult to predict what is to come without the benefit of
history. Two, uh, as we near or likely
exceed the tipping points on some of the planetary boundaries, we will
see an escalation of the climatic effects.
And climate is a threat multiplier. It is a conflict multiplier.
This nexus between climate and nature, climate and security, climate
and public health, will likely create and aggravate the
polycrisis, meaning consequences will be much worse
given the compounding effect.
