Frustration with Partner's Relaxation Habits

It makes me psychotically angry when my husband,

Chris, takes naps or relaxes on the couch

during the day.

I grew up with boomer parents. Um,

I am a first-generation American on my dad's side.

My dad is from Cuba. Um, very, very, very

hardworking parents. Nobody sat down on a couch

unless it was nighttime, and no one took naps,

you know. My mom certainly didn't take naps.

My dad would take, you know, some l- little afternoon

siestas, but it felt like he was allowed to do that because he

was such a hard

worker.

I'm not saying that Chris isn't a hard worker. Sorry, Chris.

But I get crazy if I see

him

take a nap or relax on the couch during the day.

Um, and I'll deliberately, like, try to pick a fight with him about it.

You know, I'll stomp around and slam doors like a toddler.

And so if he's gonna take a nap, you know, he'll try to avoid me because he

knows how mad I get. Uh, and I don't...

Myself, I don't like to take naps. Um, uh, if I

even will sit for a second on the couch during the day, I instantly start

to feel depressed or like my mom is gonna come back from the

dead and yell at me because that's just not what you do.

Um, and, you know, Chris obviously didn't grow up

like that, and he is well within his rights to take a

nap when he wants

to. Uh, he does, and he's taking a nap today, and I've been

stewing like a freaking winter stew,

angry about it and making loud noises on purpose because it makes me so

mad. Why am I like this? Is this like a

child of boomer, child of immigrants

attitude? Is it...

Am I just being a jerk? I mean, again, I

don't take naps, so it's not like this kindness extends to

me, you know, only and no one else. I don't take naps.

I have two teenagers. If my teenagers take naps, I'm like,

"Of course, my

baby, go take a nap," but your father better not ever take a

nap.

I'm not gonna stop being mad at him about it because he's

annoying, and I have to spend the rest of our lives

together trolling him.

I'm just curious to know if other people are like this with their

partners.

Does their ability to relax make you

insane?
