Undercover Investigation of Political Donations
Hello.
Chris.
How are you?
This is Nigel Farage, leader of Reform, filmed with an undercover camera.
Very, very good to see you.
Right.
Today he's having lunch with me.
For the past year, I've been undercover capturing every
moment of a
plot at the highest levels of Reform to bring illicit foreign
money into British politics.
I posed as William, the son of a wealthy American wanting to
give his dad's cash to
Reform. It's illegal for British political parties
to accept foreign money,
but I've uncovered a scheme cooked up by Dan Jukes, Farage's chief of staff-
Those little clandestine projects are so valuable
... and James Orr, Reform's head of policy.
Realistically speaking, he's gonna get away with it.
Orr knew the party couldn't accept William's money directly, so he came
up with a clever arrangement.
In January, Reform commissioned a public opinion poll
that ended up on the front
page of The Telegraph.
Farage was thrilled about it. All of Reform's top team tweeted about it.
But I, or William, paid for it.
I said there may be somebody I could think of who they could send an invoice
to.
I wouldn't breathe a word of this to anybody.
Orr got the polling guy to send his invoice straight to me.
I paid £18,000 from an American bank account.
In total, we paid for three of these polls,
but there was one
more thing that was bugging me. Did Nigel know?
Orr had told me earlier that he wouldn't.
Nigel won't dare touch a man like that, and it's the kind of thing he doesn't want
to ... Would rather not know about.
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Which brings me back to our lunch.
I'm there with William's American dad, played by an actor.
I was thrilled to be able to pick up the tab for the polls
that you had-
Yes
... Commissioned.
That was great.
It was fa- And the third poll-
It worked. Boom. Followed by the fact a relatively modest
investment.
Thank you for that.
I w-
There's more. I'd spoken to Orr and Jukes about another massive
illicit foreign donation for £500,000.
I need to figure out th- the movement of the money.
You can do that.
But it's the getting my money over here. No, I can do it. I can do it.
That kinda distracts. There's a, there's a solution.
Your father has got reliability,
so that's got it.
What will Nigel think? I'll be the registered donor.
Oh.
But then Dad will send the money to me, and then the money's available.
Well, thank you. Very important.
"Thank you," says Nigel. "It's very important."
So we have Nigel Farage caught on hidden camera welcoming an illicit donation
from an American businessman.
