Analysis of Ukraine Conflict Negotiations
Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner confirmed that Washington remains
committed to facilitating a resolution to the conflict in Ukraine.
As Donald Trump said in August 2025 following his meeting in Anchorage,
everyone agrees that the goal should not be just any ceasefire agreement, but
a long-term peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine that will
reliably put an end to the war. Russia, as President Putin has
repeatedly affirmed, is ready to engage in negotiations
precisely
until such a sustainable and just peace is reached.
The challenges that must be addressed to achieve this goal are clearly
outlined in Vladimir Putin's policy address in June
2024. However, having learned from bitter experience,
we will
not suspend the special military operation during negotiations in
any format.
Now, the Russian foreign minister spoke before
the UN Security
Council and made clear that the
conflict began because many
opportunities for peace were intentionally disregarded
by Ukraine on behalf of European forces that
were directing them. Europe had the opportunity to
secure peace. There was the Minsk Agreement that would
have required simply a constitutional guarantee
for regional autonomy for the Donbas region, a
protection of the right to speak the Russian language, but it was
disregarded. There was an agreement at the beginning of the
conflict that Boris Johnson himself specifically shot
down. And as far as the Russian foreign minister
is
concerned, this war is a result of fraud, fraud
that was committed by the European countries preventing
peace and putting a situation into effect where Russia
had to move in. This is what we heard from Sergei
Lavrov speaking before the Security Council.
If the Europeans did not engage in fraud and force the opposition to fulfill the
agreement signed in February 2014 under the guarantee of Berlin,
Paris and Warsaw, it would have preserved the territorial
integrity of
Ukraine within the very borders of 1991, which Zelensky
and his Western masters have been fighting for.
But the Europeans could not suppress their instinct to lie and try to achieve their
goals with criminal methods.
Now, the Russian foreign minister also
emphasized that talk of European
values by the various countries that are arming the Ukrainian
forces that are engaged in drone strikes and have
been engaged in all kinds of atrocities and attacks
first in the new republics and now, you know, attacks into Russia
itself, that talk of European values from these
forces
seems a little disingenuous. What are these European values
exactly when the forces that are being backed and armed by
the United States and the European Union
are the very forces that
hold up Nazi collaborators as heroes and
glorify the forces aligned with Hitler in the Second World
War? This is the Russian foreign minister
making that point before the Security
Council.
Ursula von der Leyen and others in Brussels
are trying to ensure that Ukraine is
moving closer to the EU by giving it money and weapons because, I
quote, Ukraine defends European values.
This means that racism, persecution of churches, heroism of
Nazism through disgusting animalistic forms of Ukrainian nationalism
are the very values that the EU in fact embraces.
Now, we heard remarks from Zelensky, the Ukrainian leader.
He addressed the Security Council and made a call for an
immediate ceasefire. And Russia has pointed out that calls
for an immediate ceasefire are completely theatrical and not
serious. A real peace in this conflict needs to be
a
lasting peace, not a temporary pause for Ukrainian
forces to regroup and proceed to attack Russia.
A terrorist tactic, that's how Russian officials have
described it, a
terrorist tactic that Ukraine has used before.
They want a just lasting peace, a peace that will endure
and will recognize Russia's security guarantees and
maintain stability, not a peace that simply allows the
regroupment of Ukraine to continue their attacks, their
terrorism against Russian civilians, et cetera.
Now, Zelensky also characterized Ukraine as
being a peaceful
country prior to the special military operation,
ignoring the shelling and the killing of civilians in the Donbas
region, ignoring the atrocities that were committed, such as the
Odessa massacre at the Trade Union House and other
atrocities committed, making it sound as if Ukraine
was just a peaceful,
happy country until Russia's special military operation began.
So we heard a lot of disingenuous words from Zelensky, but the main
thrust of his remarks was to push for this immediate
ceasefire, which Russia has made clear is simply not realistic.
If this conflict ends, it needs to end for real in a way
that it can be
permanent, in a way that stability can be restored and
that the
region can be peaceful once again.
That is not the proposal that Ukraine was putting forward
when they addressed the
General Assembly, but Zelensky did make his remarks
and he did get a lot of support from the Western
countries that are currently funding his military operations.
