Baseball Player Discusses Hitting Strategy
Hey, Freddie. Justin Verlander here.
Um, you said you've been tinkering-
Oh, hey J.
Oh, what's up, buddy?
Hold on. Hold on, J. Uh, congratulations.
That was so awesome to watch in that final, that s- final start.
Thanks, man.
Congratulations on a Hall of Fame career. Miss you, and congrats. Yep.
Thank you.
Okay, go ahead.
All right. Now, come on, man. I gotta get to work now.
I'm sorry.
Um, um, you know, you said you've been tinkering a lot with
your swing.
But-
Yep
... when you faced Chris Sale five or six weeks ago,
you had four really good at
bats against him. You got a base hit on a, on a awfully similar pitch to the one
you hit a home run on tonight. Uh, does that give you more confidence going
into
the game, uh, that that happened six weeks ago?
Yeah, I mean, y- you can really try and...
Anything against Chris, you're trying to find something positive
going in.
I mean-
Yeah
... just like you, he's gonna be in the Hall of Fame.
Um, he's one of the best pitchers in this
game.
Um, you're just really just trying to hope he
makes a mistake, and you're on
time for it, really. It's, it's a extremely hard at bat,
uh, for a lefty. Like, I don't know if you...
Like, I always say against him, you gotta be prepared to die.
You r- really, that's the mindset-
... because if you pull like, if you pull off of him, you got no chance,
and
he's throwing behind you. So if he hits you in the ear,
you gotta be okay with it.
So that's kinda my mentality. And, uh, you know, I was th-
thankfully able to get a good swing on some balls.
