Poland's Pegasus Surveillance Scandal
So there's a scandal unfolding in Poland right now, and that is the use of
Pegasus, a powerful surveillance software developed
by an
Israeli company called NSO Group.
It's sold to governments and intelligence agencies around the
world.
It can read text messages, it can read encrypted
communications on apps like WhatsApp and Signal.
It has access to your photos, your emails, track your
location. It can even activate a phone's microphone
and camera, and all
of this is done without you even clicking a link.
It can only be distributed and sold to places the Israeli government,
uh, gives approval of. Now, Donald Tusk, the Prime Minister of Poland, launched an
investigation when he came into power on the use of Pegasus.
What they discovered was that the political opposition, which
was in power
before Donald Tusk, actually did deploy Pegasus,
the Israeli spyware
software, on its political opponents.
I mean, is Pegasus being used here in the United
States?
The FBI purchased Pegasus in 2019.
They claim just to evaluate it. Who believes that, by the way?
It says it never deployed it operationally. Who believes that?
If you had a weapon this powerful in your toolkit, if you had
access to a weapon that powerful, you think you're just gonna sit on it?
One should not think that just because an Israeli company
developed this software,
it doesn't mean, it doesn't follow that then the Israeli government would
have
access to the information. Well, of course it does.
But then the question is, how do we even stop something like this?
I mean, if this stuff is in existence, what's to stop them from using it against
you, an American citizen? So this is a very scary story coming out of
Poland. I mean, this isn't just about Poland
and what happened with the political
opposition. This is something that's happening to us
all, and I think we should be
very aware of it and keep our eyes wide open and ask a lot of questions.
