WNBA Player Discusses Confidence and Height
Sophie Cunningham, how tall are you?
6'1". Do you wear heels?
Absolutely. I have a bad knee right now, so no,
because I don't want to tear my MCL again,
but typically I'm a heel girl, 100%.
You got things to do, you got games to play.
A thousand percent.
So speaking of, you're an amazing WNBA player.
What is one of your favorite things about playing in the WNBA?
I think just like the confidence it gives girls who are tall.
Yeah. You know, I'm 6'1", 160, oh yeah, woo!
165 pounds and I'm broad, right?
That's not always easy being a tall girl, but when you're around confident,
fun, positive women, you just embrace it.
And now I just love being tall and I'm all for it.
And just like, that is your biggest superpower.
You know, whatever makes you stand out, embrace that and like, go all in on it, girl.
Yes, lean into your differences.
I always say what makes you different makes you great.
I love that so much.
Then what is one of your favorite memories being in the WNBA?
Ooh, there's a fun kind of event that happened this year
that kind of made me go viral a little bit.
I kind of like to do things outside the box.
You know, I'm a little feisty, a little sassy.
Otherwise, you know, I got to be teammates with Diana Taurasi, Brittany Greiner, now Caitlyn Clark.
And so just kind of the greatness that you surround yourself by.
So I just have fun kind of every day. It's nice.
There's a girl watching this. She's 16 years old.
to the WNBA or not, but she's really tall and she wants to play sports, she's struggling with confidence.
What would you tell her?
You know, a lot of people have a lot to say, but
fill your cup up and, you know, whatever makes your soul set on fire, go for it, be the hardest worker,
be a good person,
enjoy your life a little bit and you'll be fine.
How do you stay confident on the court?
Put in the work, prepare, prepare and just be myself.
I think that's, I'm always laughing and smiling and that's a little bit different.
Everyone's kind of always like serious, which they should be, you know, there's a time and a place,
but I think what sets me apart is, you know, I'm, I'm having a good time with my teammates.
So that's it.
Well, you love what you do, which is great.
I love that so much.
Well, thank you so much for your time.
So nice to meet you. You're so awesome.
