Understanding Scapula Movement and Tension
I was asked to demonstrate tension versus free
movement at the same time, and yes, I can do it.
Check this out. Now, I was also asked about hand position.
Watch here. That rotation doesn't really make a
difference to
the scapula unless I do that
upward rotation of the scapula, which is
serratus anterior. Now, most people struggle with this part
regardless of where their hands are.
But if you tell them to do that, they get a better scoop because it's just
a head
thing. Watch here. Most people are moving
like the left arm, right? They really struggle to
just free it up. So it's got so much
unnecessary tension that it doesn't need.
What you've gotta try and do is reach
it away. Then it doesn't matter what
movement you're doing because you're connected to the
inferior angle of the scapula. It's not really
about what I'm doing here, it's about
understanding what the scapula is
doing and where it is, opposed to
this. And why is this important to
release? Because when we brush our teeth, it should be
free. Nobody should be brushing their teeth like
this.
When you're reaching for something, it should look like this.
When you're picking up something and reaching this way, it should look like
that. We are creating unnecessary tension in our
shoulders, which gives us unnecessary tension in our
necks, which adds to all life's stress that is
already setting up here. So all you have to do is
learn free movement and where the inferior angle of the
scapula
is. As simple as that
