Al-Husayn’s Refusal to Pledge Allegiance to Yazid and the Power of Words

A confrontation between Al-Husayn, Al-Walid, and someone like Yazid

He tells Al-Husayn, may God be pleased with him, that he must pledge allegiance to Yazid ibn Muawiyah for the caliphate

But Al-Husayn is not convinced that the caliph of the Muslims, the head of the Muslims

should be a debauched boy like Yazid

So he tells him, "No, I will not pledge allegiance. I refuse the pledge."

He tells him, "O grandson of the Messenger of God, this pledge is just a word."

It's just a word. It's nothing but a word, so say it and let's be done with this

Al-Husayn replied to him, "A word?"

Do you know the meaning of a word

The key to Heaven is in a word

And entering Hell is because of a word

And God's decree is the word

A word, if only you knew its sanctity

A legacy remembered

A word is light, and some words are tombs

Some words are fortresses where human nobility takes refuge

A word is the distinction between a prophet and a charlatan

Through a word, one's resolve is revealed

A word is light, so why follow them

Jesus was nothing but a word

He illuminated the world with the word

And he taught it to the fishermen, so they came to guide the world

The word shook the oppressor

The word decided the village's fate

Indeed, a word is a responsibility

A man is his word

A man's honor is his word

The honor of God

I mean, is that reasonable
