Lessons on Power and Selfishness
A huge, terrifying snake accidentally fell into a
deep well full
of rats. The moment the rats saw it, panic spread through the entire well.
They thought their death was now certain. But the snake was smart too.
It knew that if hundreds of rats attacked it together, it might not survive either.
So it quietly curled up in one corner and said, "Don't be afraid.
I've stopped hunting. I'll only eat the sick
and old rats to protect the rest of
you from disease." The rats breathed a sigh of relief.
Now, every three days, the snake would eat one rat,
and the others would sleep
peacefully, thinking, "At least it wasn't my turn today.
I'm safe." But slowly, over the next few months,
everything changed.
To save their own lives, the stronger rats started catching their
weaker rats
themselves and taking them straight to the snake. And the most terrifying part?
Those very same rats began treating the snake like their protector,
even worshiping the creature that was slowly wiping them out one by one.
And this is one of the darkest truths about power and human selfishness.
An oppressor or a dictator doesn't need to crush an entire crowd at
once. All they need to do is make people believe you're different
from the others.
You're safe. And once people start believing that,
they can become so selfish
just to save their own lives that they begin sacrificing their own
people.
